The construction of nonspherical models of quasi-relaxed stellar systems

December 30, 2008 Publications

We consider the general problem of the construction of three-dimensional nonspherical self-consistent solutions of the collisionless Boltzmann equation and we propose an analytical perturbation method and numerical spectral iteration method for solving the relevant Poisson equation. The application to the case in which the stellar system is in the presence of an external (stationary) tidal field is then explicitly discussed. This work has been completed in collaboration with Giuseppe Bertin.
